APRIL MyHealth International: cover benefit by benefit

IPMIBenefits reads APRIL International's MyHealth International plan benefit by benefit: four levels that all include hospitalisation, cancer and evacuation, with outpatient, dental, optical and maternity built on top as options.

Last updated: 20 October 2026 · Reviewed by IPMIBenefits
In short: APRIL MyHealth International comes in four levels, Explore, Essential, Extensive and Elite, and every level includes hospitalisation, cancer treatment and medical evacuation and repatriation. Outpatient, dental, optical and maternity are options layered on top: maternity can only be selected with outpatient cover, and dental and optical are packaged together except on Explore. Applicants complete a health questionnaire and pre-existing conditions are not systematically covered.
Key takeaways
  • Hospitalisation, cancer treatment and evacuation are included on all four levels; the overall annual limit rises by plan.
  • Maternity is optional and can only be selected together with outpatient cover, so a maternity buyer also buys outpatient.
  • Dental and optical are generally packaged together as one option, except on Explore where dental is listed separately.
  • Accidents and emergencies are covered worldwide on trips of up to 90 consecutive days, except in excluded countries.
  • Pre-existing conditions are not systematically covered; the terms offered after the health questionnaire and medical review are decisive.

Plans and cover levels

MyHealth International is APRIL International's long-term international private medical insurance (IPMI) for expatriates, international assignees, families, retirees, digital nomads and freelancers. It is a distinct product from APRIL's separate Thailand, UAE and Singapore plans. Four published levels run from Explore to Elite, and every one of them starts from the same three core benefits.

PlanOverall annual limitPublished structure
Explore€/$500,000Hospitalisation, cancer and evacuation; optional outpatient/pharmacy, dental and other benefits
Essential€/$1,500,000Higher core limit; optional outpatient; check-up, dental and optical limits are published
ExtensiveFrom €/$2,000,000 to unlimitedEnhanced optional outpatient, plus higher dental, optical and maternity limits
EliteFrom €/$4,000,000 to unlimitedHighest published tier; hospitalisation, cancer, evacuation and medical imaging shown at 100%

The currency, ceiling and benefits that apply to you are defined in APRIL's current Details of Benefits, and a benefit shown at 100% remains subject to the policy terms and the overall limit. Do not transfer figures between markets. Our guide to annual limits and sub-limits explains how to read a ceiling that is quoted as a range.

Core and options

All four levels include hospitalisation, cancer treatment and medical evacuation and repatriation. Everything else is layered on as an option, and the options interact:

The practical consequence is that a buyer who wants maternity is also buying outpatient, and a buyer who wants dental on most levels is also buying optical. Our guide to what each benefit adds to the cost is useful here, because the price of a MyHealth plan is largely the price of its options.

What this plan does for each benefit

Each of the eight benefits IPMIBenefits covers, with what APRIL's published material states and where it is silent.

On MyHealth International the question is rarely whether a benefit exists but which options you have to switch on to get it. Maternity needs outpatient; dental usually comes with optical. Configure first, then compare.

Geographic scope and temporary travel

The application lets you select the covered countries, including your country of nationality. APRIL also describes worldwide cover for accidents and emergencies during trips of up to 90 consecutive days, except in excluded countries. The chosen area and the excluded-country rules must be confirmed in the issued documents.

Application, underwriting and who issues the plan

Applicants complete a health questionnaire. Because pre-existing conditions are not systematically covered, the terms you are offered after medical review decide what is in and what is out; our pre-existing conditions guide explains what to ask for. The product's exclusions, deductibles, pre-authorisation rules and eligibility are in the General Terms & Conditions, product information sheet and Details of Benefits linked from the official product page.

APRIL states that the product is designed and managed by APRIL International Care France, with Groupama Gan Vie covering medical and contingency benefits and CHUBB European Group SE covering repatriation and personal liability. Confirm the entities that apply to your issued contract.

Claims and access to care

APRIL publishes its own statement about the size of its partner network; it is the insurer's figure, not an independently audited count or a list of hospital partnerships, so it is not repeated here as a benefit.

Who APRIL MyHealth International suits

A good fit if you want the three emergency benefits, hospital, cancer and evacuation, on every level, and the freedom to add outpatient, dental, optical and maternity only where you need them, in euros or dollars. Long-term expatriates, retirees and remote workers are the stated audience.

Worth comparing elsewhere if you have pre-existing conditions that need covering, if you want maternity without buying outpatient, or if mental health benefits are a priority. The insurer hub shows who covers each of those benefits as standard.
